Year 8's Match Report
Mike Scott - Year 8 Coach
Our first away game for the 2019 Season versus Belmont/Redcliffe. Another beautiful day was on offering, and we arrived knowing it was going to be a much harder assignment than last week, and with the Bears only having 15 players (so no interchange), and Belmont having a full bench of 5 it was going to be that much tougher.
The boys got off to one of their best first quarter efforts for some time, and with some real desire we were right in the game. When we won possession our ball movement was excellent, and with our accurate shots at goal we trailed by less than two goals at half time. The boys came out after half time with the same endeavour as the first half, but unfortunately as the game continued Belmont's ability to keep injecting fresh legs with their rotations began to take it's toll and they slowly got on top.
Once again Ben's ruck work and follow-ups gave us every opportunity, and the gut running from Jack continues like no other, as does the ferocity of Ash's tackling. It was great to see our new Baysie Bear, Jackson for the first time, and his speed and size helped across half-back and was another option on the wing. The boys worked their backsides off right to the end, and although the score-line was not pretty we as coaches could not have asked for any more effort, they were spent when the final siren went.
Our game next week is at home and with the return of Zac and hopefully Sascha we expect another great game.
