Year 8's Match Report
Mike Scott - Year 8 Coach
We were back at home again this week, on another bright sunny Mothers Day morning versus Manning Gold. Once again with a couple of boys being unavailable we were playing with 15 players for the second week in a row, but our opposition only had 16, so not as bad as last week.
We welcomed back both Zac and Sascha this week, which gave us some real strength to the mid-field and forward. The boys got off to a really solid start, and with us generally winning the mid-field battle we were able to put four goals on the board in the first quarter while limiting them to just one. The next two quarters were even on the scoreboard, but we seemed to have the bulk of the play, but just couldn't finish it off. The hard work did pay off however, and all that running over the last two weeks came to the fore, and with a five goal to one last quarter we ended up with a good win.
The work down back led by Josh and Chris and with the great support from Caleb, Clancy, and Tanaka was the key to limiting their score. Again our mid-field work was great starting with Ben's ruck work and with Jack getting some great support from Zac, and Asher and Trent running through as well gave our forwards plenty of opportunities. Sascha and Kobe were the beneficiaries with nine of our thirteen goals, but the hard work done by all the forwards to keep the ball in our forward half was great.
Our game next week is a long road-trip up to Sawyers Valley against the undefeated Hills Rangers.
