Year 8's Match Report
Mike Scott - Year 8 Coach
This week we where at home playing Belmont/Redcliffe who are currently second on the ladder, and they had a "comfortable" win against when we played them earlier in the season.
Everyone knew we had to start well, and against a team that fielded three lads bigger than Ben we knew it was going to be physical.
Once again the Bears teamwork was on display, and it was goal for goal for much of the first three quarters. The midfield and forwards where working well, but our backline was a little under size, but that didn't stop them going in hard to win the ball. The effort was worthwhile, as the Belmont boys where getting frustrated with not being able to win the contests and gave away three or four 50m penalties due to the pressure we where applying. We went the 3/4 time break just 10 points down, and right in the game.
Once again we where very great full for three Year 7's, Julian, Koby and Xavier all of whom played exceptional football. Unfortunately the physicality slowly took its toll, and although the boys never once took a backward step, Belmont managed three of goals to our one in the last to run out 24 point winners.
We hopefully get Asher, Chris, Owen and Jackson back after the school holiday break, all four will make our side bigger, and hopefully barring no more injuries if we meet them again in finals the boys know that they are good enough to match them and hopefully get a win.
Considering the lopsided scoreboard the boys still stuck to a team oriented game, and kept looking for team mates at all times, which from a coaches perspective was great to see.
Score: Bears 7-2 44 Belmont/Redcliffe 10-8 68
